The 606 Block Party Lantern Maker Station
Developed, proposed, and implemented a lantern-making experience for the Chicago Parks District. Our maker station for The 606 Block Party's "Illuminated Hour" centered on projection lanterns that guide visitors through the event while inviting personal expression. Guests construct lanterns using hand tools and drills and their own creativity. All raw materials provided (wooden cross sections, threaded rod and nuts and bolts, wax paper.) Organic materials gathered along the trail are sealed in the wax paper, transforming each piece into a unique memento. As participants depart, subtle movement within the light source animates shifting shadows and projections, allowing each lantern to come alive with evolving patterns that reflect both the environment and the maker’s hand.
