Architects of the Future @ Skinner West
I photographed over 1,000 students at Skinner West Elementary for Chicago Children's Theatre's "Architects of the Future" installation. Working with theater artists Kass Copeland and Frank Maugeri, each student was photographed in costume with whimsical props against a green screen. I then composited the images with illustrations by Michael Coon, creating custom textures and patterned backgrounds.
The photo series debuted as part of Chicago Children's Theatre's grand opening of The Station, their new West Loop home in the former 12th District Police Station. The portraits were featured in the theater's lobby and were projected onto exterior windows by video designer Liviu Pasare as part of the Messages of Hope community engagement project.
The project engaged Near West Side schools in creative exploration and gave students a starring role in the theater's opening celebration.
